Everyone hates a critic, unless they agree with the Critic. Political Commentary is a great example of this.

But what if you need to be critical? What if you need to give some feedback? You may be a boss needing to correct some behavior of your employee, you may be a Parent needing to discipline your child.

The best way I’ve found to do this is to make sure before you give the feedback you drop them this line:

“I’m giving you these comments because I have very high expectations of you and I’m confident you can reach them.”

Then just don’t be cruel, be helpful. We all need help sometimes, we shouldn’t be made to feel bad about that.
