Memecoins: One Part Terrible and One Part Iconic

Tech Talk #4

Memetics is the study of how an idea proliferates into Social Conscious. Memes are an example of this. Internet Culture was organized around memes. The internet started as the sharing of ideas. Sunday Comics were loved by many, it was my favorite part of the newspaper. Political Cartoons helped us make fun of a seemingly corrupted yet inevitableness of Government.

Humor is a way we deal with complicated problems sometimes. It’s a rebellion against the seriousness we face of a broken society we’re forced to live in. We are all Human, we make mistakes sometimes and egregious errors a few time in our lives, but Humor can make the best of some really bad situations.

What makes Memecoins so interesting though is the Public giving narrative to a currency. You can fault the Federal Reserve System all you want, but they still provide you with a system of currency that’s lasted 100’s of years.

Memecoins, however, are one part narrative, one part hope and one part absolute absurdity and hilarity.

You can make a Memecoin for as little as $5, and sometimes it can gain a paper worth of 8+ Billion Dollars overnight. How can that end in anything but absurdity? But that’s what Tech does, it makes the seemingly inaccessible become accessible really quickly, for anyone that can access the Internet.

Market’s are built on trust though, and for something as speculator as the crypto market is these days, it’s hard to know what to trust. But speculation has been a thing since the gold rush and even back with the East India Trading Company and their tulip fiasco.

So why should we stop buying absurd things now when it’s been an ingrained tradition since forever ago?

The Answer? We never will. Technology is just a tool, it only enhances the ideas that Human’s have been reinventing for centuries, never replacing them.
