What do we do when Robots do all Manual & Mental Labor?

We developed as a Species by inventing and using systems. Most of these systems came from things we found in nature.

How do we get water to places where there are none? We build a fake river (Aqueduct). How do we build houses with no tools? We build mud huts, brick by brick, like the Ants do.

Leonardo DaVinci studied a flowing river for hours, noting any observations. He then painted them with his expert knowledge. From real life inspiration, he became the most well known painters of his time.

But what happens when what we build something that is too accurate? It cheapens the allure, it doesn’t become art. Perfection does not connect a people, but Imperfection causes Empathy.

As such The Future of Work will look like this. When AI can build things to an almost perfect specifications, it doesn’t leave a lot of room for Art. For example, everyone wants to use ChatGPT to write content but no one wants to read ChatGPT content.

We’ve seen how fast commodities can cost less to produce with innovations. Farmers use to make up 90% of the American Jobs in the early 1800’s. Now in 2024, even combining all farming related industries, only 10% of the population need to work on a Farm. Tractors and Fertilizers Techniques have caused an 80% drop in the demand for farmers.

This situation will play out the same way in most knowledge based industries with the advent of AI. It will take some time, but it’s coming faster than we can imagine. Future knowledge workers will be more conductors with an orchestra of AI tools. They’ve trained to use those tools in an very accurate and effective way.

I predict the Future of Work and The Creator Economy are one in the same.

A typical morning for one of these workers would be:

• Wake Up
• Check Your Phone
• You have 10 New Possible Projects to Bid on, you bid on 3
• You get one, you proceed to work and have the project done with the power of AI by the end of the day.
• Projects Requesting Human Expertise, to feel valid and a little bit imperfect.
• The Review Score given at the end becomes more important than the money earned.

Think about it, what would Social Media look like if marketers had no reason to be on it? Would it even exist if not to provide a baseline reputation system for it’s users? Spam and Scams would be gone, there’s no reason to scam people when money is all but useless.

Until then, all that matters is inventing and improving the systems needed to get there. So what can you do now to prepare for such a Utopian Future?

Start building your Personal Reputation and a Knowledge Base at the same time. Start a Blog, Start an X Account, or start a Dev Project for the greater good. When Currency holds no value, your reputation will be all you have to bargain with. So don’t throw away the opportunity to build your reputation right now. The only advantage you will have in the Age of Ai is your Creative Genius and Personal Experience.
